却 is a JLPT N1 kanji meaning instead, on the contrary, rather, written with 7 strokes. It is read キャク (on) and かえって, しりぞく, しりぞける (kun). It is one of the jōyō kanji taught in secondary school. You will see it in 却って (かえって, on the contrary) and 売却 (ばいきゃく, selling off).
